another Saturday, another Malaysian Wedding

We’ve now been to two weddings here in Malaysia.  Since our own wedding, we’ve been looking forward to being wedding guests :)

Malaysian weddings are big events.  It’s not unusual to have 2,000 guests.  The party is just the reception, and it can be the day after the actual ceremony, or even months later. Guests give money gifts, which pretty much cover the cost.  No one sends out thank you notes (can you imagine?) or RSVPs.  Also, it’s apparently totally fine to bring wedding crashers like us.

This is us with the first bride and groom.

We enjoyed the colorful clothing of the guests!  That’s the Malaysian flag in the bottom right.

The second wedding, yesterday, was at a ritzy downtown KL restaurant.  There were dancers and neat musical instruments like some kind of chimes and a gong!
