holiday concert

Here’s a picture of D’s toddler class at their holiday concert last week.  Last year he was too sick to go so we were really looking forward to this one.  The cuteness more than made up for the lack of musicality.  Look at those Christmas dresses and D’s clapping and swaying.  He even strummed his ukelele while they sang “I’ve been working on the railroad,” which was one of our household fall favorite songs.

singing books

Some of D’s favorite books are those that illustrate songs.  The best are the ones that have a familiar melody, perhaps with some lyrics that can be tough for grown ups to remember.

Here’s what we’ve been read/singing:

  • Little Blue Truck’s Beep-Along Book (The book squeaks :)  )
  • Puff the Magic Dragon
  • The Itsy-Bitsy Spider
  • The Wheels on the Bus  (The pudgy book version has good pictures and my preferred lyrics which are “… all through the town.”  I like it better than the poorly illustrated Pete the Cat version, which uses “… all day long”).
  • Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

For his birthday we gave him two more: one of our favorite song from a Sunshine Music class we did this winter, and one that is a collection of bedtime stories, which I’m working on learning.

Seattle celebs

I get excited about Seattlites of our generation who make it big.  It's even better when I personally appreciate their talents!

My current list consists of hip hop artist, Macklemore (aka Ben Haggerty), and the web comic author, The Oatmeal (aka Matthew Inman).

I can't help but consider them in the context of other local celebrities though.  My dad's generation of Seattlelites includes Bill Gates and Jimi Hendrix.  I would posit that, outside of the performing arts (Michael Jackson) and politics (Obama), Bill Gates is the single most globally known living person.  Counter suggestions are welcome.

I wonder if anyone from our generation will achieve that level of fame?
