The themes that carried us through 2013 were pregnancy and house-design, so if I had to pick one word to described the year, it would be anticipation.
Other, than those two biggies, most aspects of life did not change. We stayed at the same jobs, lived in the same apartment and Jack stayed on the same baseball team.
Recreation
It was also a spectacular year for hiking (report). We hiked in western Washington and New Mexico and I also made it to California and Colorado!

Here’s a picture from a hike at Mount Rainier over labor day weekend.
Jack played soccer in the winter and fall and baseball in the summer. I played in a handful of games in the winter as well. Whew!
Family
Our families made some big changes this year. My dad retired (happy retirement) and my sister and brother in law graduated (S M A R T) and moved to Boston.
To celebrate my sister’s graduation she and I took a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. We had some good high altitude hikes and, more importantly it was the first of many trips together (excluding trips from when we were kids).
Travel
I went to Boston for work in March (week in Boston) and saw a few friends and Jack did a whirlwind east coast visiting tour of Philly, NYC and Boston. We had a wonderful time together in New Mexico after attending graduation in Texas (the owls have it). This fall we stayed close to home except for a weekend in Portland (Portland lessons).
Weddings and Babies
We celebrated my cousin’s wedding (Winthrop wedding) and the wedding of our friends, Hana and Lucy (love party).
Our friends A&S welcomed baby Andrew and we got to see them in the hospital.
Books, Events and Food
We enjoyed reading The Art of Fielding together and Where’d You Go Bernadette in rapid succession. I read a lot of pregnancy books.
Cider House Rules was the best novel I read this year.
Jack went to a great USA versus Panama soccer game, in June
I was completely surprise and exceedingly pleased by the party Jack threw for my 30th birthday (surprise!)
In Santa Fe, we ate at Cafe Pasqual's, where we had some of the best food I’ve ever tasted. Jack gave me one of their cookbooks for Christmas (yes we do that early…) and cooked three recipes from it on a weeknight!

Next year will be full of big, exciting changes!
