a day with the dogs

Last weekend I went to my first dog show.

First off, what’s not to like about corgis?  See #33 on this list to for more along these lines.

The best in show part was fun because of the variety of breeds.  It was sort of amusing to see very dressed up women jogging in circles with their dogs.  Flats were the obvious choice for footwear .

Based purely on looks, I think that if our cat were a dog, she would be a Weimaraner.

Of course, a dog show is an ideal place to study the owner-pet resemblance theory.  I couldn’t resist a few pictures.

The agility events ran all day and were entertaining to watch, mostly because the dogs were having a blast.
Here’s an amusing 2 minute video.  You’ll see that tunnels were a challenge and that border collies are amazingly good at this.  The last dog is having so much fun he barks the whole time he is running.

There were also some good demos.  This is a Seattle Police dog.  She’s the first female dog they’ve successfully trained in the 40-odd years they’ve had K-9 division.  One of the advantages is that she’s small enough to be carried over fences etc.

Lastly, this Boeing bomb-sniffer dog was the only mutt in the place.  Good for him!
