Mediterranean diet aspirations

I could write about this for a long time, but talk is cheap and I don’t think it would make for an interesting post.  From sampling restaurants and traveling, I've learned that my favorite cuisines describe a tour of the Mediterranean – Turkish, Greek, Moroccan, Italian - you get the idea.

Happily, the Mediterranean diet is super healthy and I am an aspiring convert.  It is balanced, delicious, ancient, cultural and realistic.  It has also been studied a lot and it’s shown to be great for heart health, diabetes, cholesterol and longevity.
The emphasis is on vegetables, good fats and fish.  For me the hardest part is limiting sugar.
This book, Mediterranean Light by Martha Rose Shulman, is far and away my favorite cookbook.  It uses everyday ingredients and I particularly like the balance of vegetarian and carnivorous recipes it contains.

I came across the recipes of Shulman independently from two different directions before realizing she was the same person, so I can offer her work two sincere thumbs up.
I am also a fan of her recipes in the New York Times recipes for health section.
