Tonight we bought a Santana tandem. We will be its third owners.
There are a few parts to replace and we’ll need a tune up but we hope to start riding before the fourth of July so we can make the most of the summer.
My parents really enjoy their tandem and we were inspired to start a healthy new hobby together (in addition to designing our house, of course).

Their tandem enthusiasm was a catalyst for this purchase. My mom found a bike her in network and my dad checked out the bike. Also, they have a tandem roof rack, which is now on our list of things to buy. Learning to ride a tandem together in Pioneer Square sounds like a nightmare, so it’s important to be able to get the bike out to the suburbs!
The bike is pictured here with its second owners.

An interesting details is that first owners, who had the bike custom built, are also sailors and published authors. Maybe I’ll check out this account of their harrowing cruise around South America (Cape Horn: One Man's Dream : One Woman's Nightmare).
